![]() Q: How long does it take for a lake map to be created?Ī: Only as long as it takes you to map it! Quickdraw Contours creates HD maps with 1’ contours instantly without sacrificing quality. Garmin doesn’t believe in forcing you to share your hard-earned data with us in order to get your map back. Q: Do I have to upload my sonar logs to Garmin in order to get my map back?Ī: Nope! There is no tedious process that requires you to upload sonar logs when you get home. Trust us, you won’t want to go back to the ancient way of doing things. If you’ve used other mapping programs before on your old units, try Quickdraw Contours. Users are now able to download the latest marine software update to create their own HD lake maps with 1’ contours. ![]() I use both Insight Genesis, Reefmaster and Navionics SonarCharts Live, depending on where I`m going, how I`m fishing and what level of detail I`m looking for.Garmin is changing the game once again with the release of Quickdraw Contours. And remember that you can use more then just one of these products/ services in order to get all the benefits. If you want full flexibility, a lot of options and don`t mind a learning-curve, look to Reefmaster. If you want better quality and more options, look to Insight Genesis or Humminbird AutoChart. If you want something fast and easy, look to Navionics SonarCharts (Live), Garmin QuickDraw or Humminbird AutoChart Live. The options are there, and in all honesty the differences has more to do with personal preference then with what is right or wrong. This is the though question in todays marine electronics. But this is a bit technical, and sligthly different from the other options listed here. With Reefmaster you can have both, a structuremap as base-layer and then contours on top. This is NOT a contour-map, it shows structure. On recent Lowrance and Simrad with SideScan you can overlay the sidescan-data on your map. Has a learning-curve (if you have trouble importing images from yourĬamera to a PC, Reefmaster is not for you, but neither is AutoChart.) + You can make charts on paper, or for smartphones etc. With some skills you can make charts for Garmin as + You can make maps for Lowrance/ Simrad that look like youīought them, and maps for Humminbird that at least works well even though theyĭon`t look that nice. + Full controll of privacy, it`s all on your PC.Ĭontroll over the data, as it can be converted. + Takes data from all brands of electronics, and then Navionics SonarChart, with Live-recordings on top + SonarCharts Live makes mapping more fun. + Often there will be a map to start with, and then you can improve on that. + Very large base of people using it, lots of data and updates + Easy to use if your unit has WIFI with NMEA-data and/ or depth in its tracklog (GPX). You can not alter boundaries, but depend onĪll brands except Garmin - Navionics SonarCharts Can only use data from Lowrance/ Simrad + Vegetation-belts and bottom composition (soft/hard) Offcourse when going somewhere new where someone has shared. + Social Map, if you do decide to share and Has a learning-curve, made worse with the bugs.įrom other then Humminbird, and can not make maps for other then With AC Live you get both "QuickDraw" and Autochart. + You can alter the data and change layout + You have more controll over the data, as it You can not alter the map, ie correct badĭepthreadings or change the layout like boundaries (land/water), nor use theĬollected data except on a compatible unit. + Free, as long as you have a compatible Garmin-model ![]() ![]() + Very easy to use, it`s fun to see imidiate results on your plotter. As you can see from the original one in the link I have made a few changes to give it more substance. I made the list below due to THIS THREAD on a US-forum for marine electronics. There is no way I can write in-depth (pun intended) about alle these options in one article, so this is more of an overview. Here I`ll try to answer a few of them by making a short comparison. There are quite a few questions on this subject on different forums and Facebook etc. ![]()

![]() ![]() Larry always said that he employed some really talented cowboys who were actually cowgirls! After many 3-day family cattle drives, with Stacee & Shellee horseback & Heidi on a motorcycle, the cow/calf pairs summer-pastured at Pole Creek, high up on Elk Mountain overlooking Nevada’s breath-taking Ruby Valley.Īs a young man, Larry’s first love of farming was developed & demonstrated by relentless work ethic, natural ability for mechanics & challenging heavy equipment operation all enhancing his multitude of farming achievements.Īs a renowned potato farmer, Larry was thrice awarded the Idaho Potato Farmer of the Year. The cattle grazed on 11,000 deeded acres & 40,000 BLM acres on the high desert of Marshall Butte, Coonskin Butte, Signal Butte & Black Butte in south-west Idaho. ![]() Larry managed a 3000 head band of sheep & 1200 head of cattle while farming 600 home acres & a 300 acre dryland farm parallel to the “17 mile” road near Three Creek. Furthermore, he emotionally & financially supported Marcella’s return to ISU to finish her earlier educational endeavor to obtain a Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. ![]() Larry sent his 3 daughters to college to assure their independence as adults. Soon enough, Stacee & Shellee were driving the big trucks “up-country” to Black Butte with horses to “cowboy” for the day. He educated them in crop production & they mastered machinery operation including hay swathers, hay balers & corn cultivators. Larry’s goals were teaching his daughters the enduring values of family, honesty, work ethic, animal husbandry & stewardship of the land. In early years of fatherhood, Larry was devoted to his children with Heidi frequently napping on his lap as Stacee & Shellee hopped in his truck for a ride-along as he managed the farm & drove the daily 40 mile round trip to the desert checking water troughs & the well-being of the cow/calf herd. When his parents retired to the West Coast, Larry’s operation became Desert Rose Ranch, Inc. Larry successfully operated the ranch as he & Marcella raised three daughters: Stacee, Shellee and Heidi on the Heil Land & Livestock Ranch where Larry was dedicated to fulfilling his Dad’s dream of building an “empire”. Larry exuded great pride moving his bride from a small Eagle farm on the Boise River to the vast, desolate high desert region of the Roseworth Tract beginning an adventurous partnership of 58 years. They were married in December 1965, in the Cathedral of the Rockies in Boise. Marcella described their chance meeting as an instant attraction likely fueled by Larry’s dark good looks, daring demeanor, & propensity to brag but softened by his obvious kind and gentle spirit. In 1964, Larry met Marcella Hedberg on a blind-date for ISU’s Homecoming. Eventually, Larry drove himself to school safely navigating the one-lane gravel road across the gorgeous but treacherous Lily Grade over Salmon Falls Creek with sheer drop-off cliffs of several hundred feet along most of the route.Īfter 1962 graduation from Castleford High, Larry enrolled at Idaho State University (ISU) & pledged Sigma Phi Epsilon. A new six-axis accelerometer and faster-acting software allow for quicker and more progressive stability control intervention, something that Aston's director of vehicle performance, Simon Newton, tells C/D is critical to maintaining drivability given the amount of power being delivered through a single axle. There will be five dynamic modes-Wet, Sport, Sport Plus, Track, and Individual-which modify engine, damper, and power steering settings as well as the reactions of the electrically controlled torque-biasing rear differential. The old Vantage had separate control switches for its adjustable powertrain and chassis settings, but the new one has a single controller for all functions. Buyers will also be able to choose between cast iron and carbon-ceramic brakes. Adaptive dampers will be standard, offering a much greater range of force adjustability than in the old car. Top speed is claimed to be 202 mph.īeneath the surface, the Vantage's body structure has been stiffened with new reinforcement pieces the improvement across the whole car is quoted as 7 percent, but in key areas close to suspension attachment points, it is much more than that. (Sadly, there will never be a manual option.) Aston claims the new car gets to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, but we would be surprised if we didn't beat that given the F1 Edition blasted its way through the benchmark in 3.5 seconds with 158 less horsepower. The final-drive ratio for the standard ZF-supplied eight-speed auto has also been lowered, improving acceleration further. ![]() Peak torque has risen to 590 pound-feet, an 85-pound-foot increase over the Vantage F1 Edition, available all the way from 2750 to 6000 rpm. But as with the DB12, it has been given numerous internal upgrades to boost performance, with new turbos and a heavily revised top end, as well as much better cooling. The new Vantage's engine shares its layout, capacity, and Mercedes-AMG bloodline with its predecessor: a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. Other than that, having seen the new car up close, our overall impression was of a dramatic upgrade in both design and ergonomics. They have been replaced by a small, stubby gear selector for the standard automatic gearbox. The old Vantage's three-part digital dashboard, with a central rev counter, has also been replaced by a single instrument display.Īs on the DB12, a mild disappointment is the loss of the PRND transmission control buttons that have been a characteristic feature for a generation of Astons. The new car has been given a set of updates very similar to those of the DB12, with a redesigned center console that rises at a shallow angle to a new touch-sensitive infotainment screen physical switchgear is identical in both cars. Much bigger changes have been made where they were really needed: inside the Vantage's cabin. That means if the new Vantage continues its predecessor's Formula 1 safety car duties-which seems likely, given Aston's close connection to the sport-it will apparently be able to do so without any extra cooling. The increase in area is driven by both form and function, with the amount of air reaching the revised car's radiators increased by a full 50 percent. The front end gets a new bumper and fenders to wrap around what will be standard LED headlights and also a substantially larger radiator grille. The outgoing Vantage was already a handsome beast, so we aren't surprised that visual changes are limited. The revised car still carries the Vantage name, although we know that thought was given to changing it, but Aston insiders say that the overall scale of the changes is even greater than the one that turned the DB11 into the DB12. Other revisions include a stiffened body structure, smarter active dynamics, and an all-new infotainment system. Aston insiders say that the overall scale of the changes is even greater than the one that turned the DB11 into the DB12. This new Vantage boasts an enormous 656 horsepower and output that sees it leapfrogging rivals such as the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Mercedes-AMG GT63. In V-8 guise, the outgoing Vantage boasted a maximum output of 528 horsepower in turned-up F1 Edition guise. Bodywork changes are limited-there was little wrong with the looks of the outgoing version-but the Vantage has also been given an all-new interior and a huge power increase. Midlife facelifts of successful models normally bring small revisions.
